Located in the southwest part of Bexar County, Texas, Von Ormy is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. There are just over 1,000 people that call this place their home according to the 2010 census. This community was previously known by several names including “Mann’s Crossing” and “Garza’s Crossing” prior to getting its name Von Ormy in the late 1880s. This community exists along the Medina River around the crossing point of Upper Laredo Camino Real. It is located 15 miles northeast of the San Antonio downtown area, making it close enough to enjoy the big city without having to deal with the busy life that the city offers. It is also interesting to note that this community is considered to be the “Farm Film Capitol of South Texas” and is a big part of the budding South Texas film industry.
