Selma

Selma, Texas is a town that exists as a part of 3 different counties: Bexar, Guadalupe, and Comal counties. It is considered to be a part of San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population was at around 5,500 people, which was a significant increase from the 788 people that were there during the 2000 census. Selma is around 18 miles northeast of San Antonio’s downtown. This is a middle class town that has a rich history. In fact, it was once known as being as speed trap and was referenced in Steve Earle’s “Guitar Town”. There are a lot of interesting things that you can learn about this incredible town.

Things to Do

Selma does have a lot to offer residents in terms of entertainment. Among the great options people have to enjoy here is the Retama Park racetrack. This is one of the most popular locations within this town and brings in a lot of visitors to the area. After you are done watching a race here, you can also check out the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame that is also in the area. If you are new to the area, you can learn a lot about your new home by visiting the Historic Texas Tours. Their day tours are very informational and you will have a good time on this tour. If you like some great live music, you should check out Blue Bonnet Palace. They have amazing live shows here and it is on the inexpensive side so you can really enjoy yourself while you are out on the town.

You may be surprised at just how many choices you have for food here in Selma and the local area. One fantastic place to eat is Thai Spice & Sushi. This Asian cuisine keeps customers coming back for more all of the time. Chuy’s is a Tex-Mex restaurant that is quite popular because of how amazing its food is as well as having incredible customer service. If you enjoy Mexican food, another great place for you to enjoy is Freebirds, which comes highly recommended by locals. Rudy’s is another popular spot especially if you enjoy eating amazing barbecue cuisine at an affordable price. Finally, you need to go eat at Pasha Mediterranean Grill at least once for a truly incredible dining experience.

There are a lot of stores in the area, especially being so close to San Antonio. A great department store to stop by and visit is Bealls, which has such a great variety of items to purchase. Another unique destination is Lazy M Ranchwear Boutique. Here you can find such unique and fascinating items that you cannot get anywhere else. Aside from these local gems, you have convenient access to pretty much any big box store that you want to go to in the area.
