Elmendorf

Elmendorf is a city that finds itself in both Bexar County and Wilson County. As part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area, Elmendorf has an estimated population of nearly 1,500 according to the 2010 census. It is around 17 miles south of San Antonio’s downtown area. This middle class city was founded in 1885. Once upon a time the biggest employer in this city was Star Clay Products. This is a growing community that has a lot to offer people who are looking for more affordable homes in their budget. Plus, it is so close to the big city of San Antonio meaning that it is a very convenient location to settle down in.

Things to Do

There are quite a few outdoor locations here that you can enjoy. One of these locations is Braunig Park, where you can enjoy the view of a gorgeous lake. Rockin’ R River Rides is a perfect location to relax on a hot Texas day. You may also enjoy the San Antonio River Walk. This is a gorgeous path where you can see a stunning view of San Antonio while stopping at shops, bars, and restaurants on your way around. Another great outdoor adventure is the San Antonio Missions Hike and Bike Trail. Here you will get to walk around some incredible and historic locations. King William’s Historic District always seems to have something going on, which is what makes this such an incredible spot.  

Things to Eat

One of the best locations in Elmendorf to eat is Tom’s Burgers & More. This is a popular location because you get quick service and delicious food all in one location. It is always busy, which shows you just how great this place is. Bill Miller Bar-B-Q Incorporated is a decent barbecue dining option that has very reasonable prices. Mama Judy’s Pizza is a perfect location to score some pizza from a local restaurant. For food on the go, try the Puerto Rican Grub Express food truck, which offers amazingly authentic food. If you are looking for a more elegant dining experience, you absolutely must go to Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard for an experience that you won’t soon forget. Shop

Being so close to the big city, you can really find everything that you want in driving distance as far as stores that you may want to shop at. There are also local shops within this city that you should also consider checking out. One of these spots is The Rustic Rooster. This is a thrift store/resale shop that has a lot of constantly changing options in the store.

 

Elmendorf is a middle class city in Texas that is close enough to San Antonio where you can enjoy the benefits of a big city life while enjoying everything that you love about a smaller city.
